One Year Later
... Heh, well, I never did get this thing going. Couple reasons why - mainly no muse to write and no set topic to write about.
However, since the beginning of 2011, I have re-found my love for writing on the text based forums for StarWarsRPG again. I had been apart of that community since it's start up in 2003 (helped start with background work on it in 2002). I've been off and on there since then, and had actually retired at the beginning of 2009, as I had a lot of personal crap going on to deal with. Stress in my professional, social, and personal life pretty much killed most any kind of writing bug I had. It also didn't help that I let the politics of the board add into the stress. I was one of the leaders of an upstart group at this board, and it really felt like an uphill battle for me. There was so much red tape and at that time in my life, I began taking it personal and forgot what the place really was about.
However, at the beginning of 2011, I found myself missing the fun I use to have in writing a story. I returned, putting all the crap from the past aside, and made an oath to myself - don't let it get to me. It's a place for fun, to share a story, and to vomit creative thoughts for the other members' enjoyment.
And let me tell you, it has been fun. And it got me thinking, why not use this as an "add on tool" for my main character that I write there? It is in no way intended as my own offshoot RP place. Rather, I see this as being my character's 'journal', a place where he voices his thoughts and opinions on his every day events and interactions. Some might be serious, some might be funny. It's a thought. There's a 50/50 chance I'll actually keep with this. But I figure it might be an interesting topic and read. Ya know, if you are geeky like me.
So there ya have it.

Purpose of a Blog
Good evening, ladies and gents who may never read this. I've had my share of journals and writing places here and there. And while I am an advent believer that writing is medicine for the soul, and food for the mind, I have never really been very good at keeping up with it on a regular basis.
Since around 2000 or so, I have been an avid writer. My writing career was focused on the text based roleplaying in the Star Wars (geek alert) universe on a couple of different online forums where other liked minded geeks with absolutely amazing writing skills got together and wrote amazing works of literary amateur art.
Some of the stories and plot lines I was a part of were absolutely wonderful. However, over the years I grew busy, got swept up in "forum politics", and all of the red/brown tape involved with leading groups and in once case, helping (re: actually running) the actual online community. It drained me. I couldn't sit and write stories at places that I just did not consider fun anymore. Couple that with some rather life jarring real life events, I retired in the beginning of 2009.
Do I regret retiring? No. But I miss the bloody hell out of it. I met some amazing people through the times, and I really believe it helped my writing and general English skills and abilities.
I was in a training class for work back in February. To start it off, the person leading the class went around the room and had everyone introduce themselves, and tell everyone an interesting thing about themselves. When it was my turn, I told everyone I "use to be an avid writer." Went into how I haven't really written anything in a year. By the end of the week long class, the leader told me to set a goal and get back into writing.
Which brings me to this. A blog. but blogs, I have found, are not really successful unless there is a specific purpose of said blog. It can't really be all willy-nilly. And quite frankly, I do not have the slightest idea of what the purpose of this blog should be. A lot of blogs by people I know currently are about life goals or year goals, with having a list of 100 things or doing something new each and every day.
I also feel like everyday going ons are not what a blog should be about, or rather my blog. Of course, I could go into tangents and give social commentary on every day occurrences, or social commentary on what is going on in my life, rather than say "i did a b and c, it was fun."
Maybe the goal thing will work. It will help me keep track of what I want and would like to do, and maybe it will keep me focused enough. If that's the way I want to go, then here are some of my short/long term goals for the year:
PS: It felt good to verbally vomit again.

- Lose 2-4 inches off of my waste/turn my gut into something resembling abs. This will mean either working out, running, or changing my diet.
- Finish the financial advising book my coach gave me. Hopefully, this will help me budget money (and time) and help me pay off loans and invest in a smart and fruitful manner.
- Get into a regular reading pattern.
